Spain Success In A Game Of Two Halves

SPAIN – CHILE 31-21 (13-15)

Spain added third win at the 2019 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship. The European team defeated Chile (31-21) after surviving a hard-fought match from the South American team in the first half. Chile surprisingly led by the two goals after 30 minutes.
Chileans played their best period on the championship and even had four goals lead in the first half. But after the pause Spain made strong defense and with counterattacks turned the result in their favore. Chile only scored six goals in the second 30 minutes.

Ander Izquierdo Labayen scored six goals for Spain. Matias Paya was scorer of five goals in Chile team.

Head Coach Spain – Alberto Suarez Menendez

Nothing was as it should be in the first half in our team. But luckily our defense was much better in the second half and that was the reason that we overturned the game and we got third win.

Head Coach Chile – Claudio Miguel Lira Mendiguren

We were two completely different teams in the first and in the second half. In the first half we were at the level as we should be at the world championship. But we couldn’t continue in the same style for the all 60 minutes. Spain’s defense in the second half was too strong.
