Spain defeat Iceland to rank 7th

ICELAND – SPAIN 26-30 (8-12)

The national teams of Iceland and Spain opened the last day of 2019 IHF Men’s Youth World Championship at Boris Trajkovski Arena. Spain took the 7th place after the win over Iceland 26-30.

The first half was in domination of Spain. Iceland didn’t have idea in attack, also the spanish goalkeeper Rodriguez made few saves in a row, so Spaniards had the lead with six goals. The result before the break was 8-12.

In the second half, the Iceland’s team who had a short squad with 13 players, didn’t have strength to decrease the lead of Spain. The head coach of the Spaniards made many changes on the court in his team, but nothing changed especially and the final result was 26-30.

The best scorers in Iceland were Oskarson and Gautason with five goals and the best scorer in  Spain was Ala with five goals. MVP of the match the spanish goalkeeper Roberto Rodriguez.

Heimir Rikardsson (Iceland): We had a lot problems with the injuries and we played with one goalkeeper. After the game against Egypt, we are not completed. It is good to be in the TOP 8, but it is the same to be 4th, 5th or 6th place.

Alberto Suarez (Spain): These last matches are difficult to play, but our guys deserve the win and the 7th place on this World Champions. We wanted to be in the final, but a little details were decisive to not fight for the gold.
