Iceland cheers quarterfinal place after clash with Japan today in Boris Trajkovski Arena.
Goalkeeper Alexander Takagi kept Japan in control during first ten minutes. Iceland with Haukur Thrastarson once again in the squad equalized after 13 minutes (4-4). First exclusion in Japan team bring one goal into empty net and two goals advantage for Iceland (6-4). Shortly after Icelanders doubled to 8-4. Japan could not reach the level from the match against the host.
Thrastarson scored and assists for 10-6 after 20 minutes, and Iceland gain rhythm and control over the match. Japan could not find their game and were forced to chase four to five goals.
Both team were all in into the second half. Japan stepped harder on the gas pedal and reached 15-17 after only two minutes. But Iceland controlled the match and rise to five goals.
However Japanese players showed fighting spirit and although they made too many errors they were constant danger for Icelanders. But time was running out and nothing significant changed. Iceland had answer for every Japan attempt.
Finally and Iceland is in the quarter finals. MVP of the match was Tumi Runarsson from Iceland.
