Spain is out Denmark is in the semi finals

SPAIN – DENMARK 19-23 (10-9)

For the first time in this Championship, Denmark was in real trouble. They are taller and stronger, but fast and creative players from Spain performed excellent especially in first ten minutes when four goals gap was created.

Denmark slowly find their way back. After 24 minutes reduced Spain advantage to two goals (6-8) and with strong defense create opportunity to put more pressure over Spaniards and finally equalized in last minute of the first half (9-9).

Battle became more intense as Denmark took the lead in second half (13-11). Spain showed some fighting spirit and equalized (13-13). Denmark could finally catch some breath when Cieslak scored from penalty for 18-15 and Hangard rise to 19-15 only ten minutes until the end.

Spain was loosing battle and there was not much that coach could do. Llamazares bring some hope when scored for 18-21, but Denmark didn’t allow any surprise.

Simon Sorensen (Head Coach Denmark)  – We won today not because we played better, but because we were physically stronger. Uh, touhg match between two strong defense.

Suarez Menendez (Head Coach Spain)  – We started well but into second half… maybe we were little tired from yesterday tough match and could not play on the same level. We made some mistakes and Denmark is strong team…
